16MN Quick forging hydraulic press is a new type of free forging equipment, which is not only applicable to carbon steel and alloy steel, stainless steel, high alloy steel, tool and die steel, and also suitable for titanium, tantalum, niobium and other non-ferrous alloy. It is able to complete all the processes of free forging, such as stretching, upsetting, punching (reaming), saddle forging, core bar drawing, torsion, bending and cut etc. It has the advantages of higher number of strokes (generally about 80 ~ 120 times / min) and the fast-speed working stroke (generally up to 60% ~ 120mm/s).

Forging is a kind of method which uses forging machine to press the metal billet to produce plastic deformation and obtain the forgings with a certain mechanical property, shape and size. It is one of the two major parts - forging and stamping. Forging can eliminate the defection of as-cast loose during metallurgy process and improve the microstructure. The mechanical property of forgings is generally better than that of the same material of castings, because forging craftsmanship can keep the intact metal streamline. The important parts with high load and severe working conditions in the relevant machinery are more used forgings, in addition to the simple shape plate, sectional material or welded parts.

Compared with the castings, the microstructure and mechanical properties of the metal can be improved after forging. Due to the metal deformation and recrystallization, the original coarse dendrite and columnar grain change to recrystallization microstructure with finer grain and uniform size after forging thermal processing. Compact and weld the original segregation, porosity, gas hole and slag of the ingot, the organization become more closely, the product of forging has the characteristics of compact, uniform, fine and good comprehensive performance, completely improve the metal plasticity and mechanical properties.

The mechanical property of the casting is lower than the same material forgings mechanical properties. In addition, the forging processing can ensure the metal fiber tissue continuity, keep the forging of fibrous tissue and forgings contour consistency, make the metal streamline intact, ensure the parts with good mechanical performance and long service life by precision die forging, cold extrusion, warm extrusion, and other production process of forging, which is unable to match for the castings. 

Forging method is by the metal plastic flow to make the required shape of workpiece. The volume of the metal is constant after the plastic flow produced by the external force, and it is always flow to the part of least resistance. In production, often control the shape of the workpiece according to these rules, to complete the deformation of upsetting and stretching, reaming, bending and drawing.
 
The forging production is one of the main methods to provide the blank of mechanical parts in the machine manufacturing industry. For those important mechanical parts with high requirements, mostly are manufactured by the forging method, such as the important parts of steam turbine generator shaft, rotor, impeller, blade, retaining ring, large hydraulic pressure machine column, high pressure cylinder, rolling mill roller, internal combustion engine crankshaft, connecting rod, gear, bearing, and the artillery in the defense industry, etc.
